About

Amber Marie is a interdisciplinary neurodivergent queer Artist residing in Muscogee territory of Oklahoma. Amber has been dancing as long as she can remember. Her choreographic journey began at 11 when she started developing her own work to be performed at community events, competitions, and local churches. By the time she reached 16 she was traveling abroad doing what was known as “dance ministry,” blending interpretive dance, choreography and improv to create a unique experience of connecting to spirit through movement.

At the age of 19, she traveled to South America, performing with a dance team and exchanging work with other dance groups in Paraguay. That same year, her undergraduate film concepts were chosen and adapted into a dance film by the John Lennon Learning Bus.

After receiving her Bachelor of Arts in International Community Development, with a minor in Dance Performance and Pedagogy, she began developing and collaborating with other local artists to create site specific works and films. These works often combined multimedia elements of recorded voice, original scores, and installation work. All the while she was learning new skills and teaching dance classes in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, and Modern.

Amber’s choreographic and multimedia works and installations have been shown multiple times in Living Arts of Tulsa, Exchange Choreography Festival, Studio K, and Philbrook Museum of Art. Amber continues to develop new works that show deep gratitude for mother earth, human connections, interspecies relations, land-tending, environmental stewardship, and the mystery of spirit.

She works as an interdisciplinary artist, and multidisciplinary Teaching Artist in the practices of indigo, natural dyes and pigments, fiber arts, grass basketry, collage, painting, and many other art forms. She has taught people of all ages, focusing primarily on elementary children and particularly those who are from under-served communities. She continues her work in Somatics and movement through the facilitation of Improvisation, Meditative Movement, Creative Movement and Modern Dance.
